Forests Are Being Threatened



Watching the "Biggest & baddest" episode (Animal Planet) in Amazon rainforest this evening.

In a way to find Anacondas by the host (Biologist: Niall McCann) for his research, there's a few more rare species found by him. The harmony lifestyle of the rainforest species and local people. Everything's looked so good and happy.

But who knows recently, the human hands themselves burned that beautiful forest. They'd burned the 20% of world's oxygen supply. Burned the "lungs" of our planet. Burned the largest rainforest on Earth. The destroyed occurred in a high and rapid rate this year. This is totally frustrating.

Do you know why it is called AMAZON? Because it is the most AMAZING forest in the world, being a home to most of life. Nine nations covered. This vast region, about two-thirds the size of the US, spans eight countries:

 1. Brazil
2. Bolivia
3. Peru
4. Ecuador
5. Colombia
6. Venezuela
7. Guyana
8. Suriname, and
9. The overseas territory of French Guiana.
Covering about 40% of South America, the Amazon contains 1.4 billion acres of dense forests, half of the planet’s remaining tropical forests, 4,100 miles of winding rivers and 2.6 million square miles in the Amazon basin.

The Amazon is an incredibly unique place. It is the world’s largest rain forest and river system, and the most biologically diverse place on Earth. It contains millions of species, most of them still undescribed. Being one of Earth’s last refuges and home for:

1. Jaguars
2. Harpy eagles
3. Pink river dolphins
4. Sloths
5. Black spider monkeys
6. Poison dart frogs.
7. Hummingbirds
8. Channel-billed toucans
9. Hoatzins
10. Macaws (iconic bird of Amazon)

 It contains one in 10 known species on Earth, 40,000 plant species, 3,000 freshwater fish species, and more than 370 types of reptiles. Over 2,000 new species of plants and vertebrates, including a monkey that purrs like a cat, have been described since 1999 (WWF, 2019).

More than 30 million people, including 350 indigenous and ethnic groups, live in the Amazon and depend on nature for agriculture, clothing, and traditional medicines. There is also a clear link between the health of the Amazon and the health of the planet. The rain forests, which contain 90 billion to 140 billion metric tons of carbon, help stabilize local and global climate. The Amazon also pumps about 7 trillion tons of water per year into the atmosphere, and its forests recycle 50%-75% of annual rainfall back into the atmosphere.

Only after the last forest has been burned intentionally,
Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then you will find that we cannot eat money.

What is TRASH HERO?

26 Volunteers from 17 chapters in Malaysia, get training and share knowledge with each other for 3 days in Mersing, Johor, Malaysia. The family meetings have become key engagements in Trash Hero organisation’s calendar: as a diverse and dispersed network, they provide the leaders with the vital time and space for immersive, face to face communication that helps to equip and motivate volunteers for the coming months.
